Comet 46P/Wirtanen Viewing Event

December 18, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Join the Buffalo Museum of Science and Tifft Nature Preserve and view the Comet 46P/Wirtanen, or the “Christmas Comet,” on the Mounds at Tifft

If you follow the Buffalo Museum of Science on Facebook, you’ll know this small comet (only 1/10 the size of Halley’s Comet) comes into our orbit about once every five to six years. This time, we are in luck – it will be the best viewing of this comet in at least 400 years!

The Museum’s astronomy team will be on site with limited binoculars and telescope equipment, so please bring your own set of binoculars to view this comet as it orbits the earth. Dress warmly for chilly, lake-front temperatures (hats, gloves, scarves and heavy coats). *We cannot guarantee clear skies for optimal viewing.*

Location: The Mounds at Tifft Nature Preserve (1200 Fuhrmann Boulevard, Buffalo, NY 14203)
