DEC Updates

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), in coordination with the State Department of Health (DOH), City of Buffalo, and Tifft Nature Preserve, is performing environmental sampling at the Preserve.

The safety of guests and staff remains of the utmost importance. As the operator of the Education Center and its programming, Tifft Nature Preserve continues to follow the guidance of City of Buffalo, DEC, and DOH for Center and programming operations. The Education Center has been sampled and cleared for continued use by Department of Health. If needed, Tifft will adjust future programs accordingly.

Most of the Preserve’s trails and all boardwalks remain open to the public under the guidance of the City of Buffalo, DEC, and DOH. Visitors are encouraged to stay on marked paths and to avoid entering areas that are fenced off or closed for environmental sampling.

Out of an abundance of caution, the DEC advises anglers to not to eat any fish caught on the property at this time.
