Science at Home
Join us this 2020-2021 school year for a virtual monthly program series!
Science at Home invites registrants to explore age-appropriate STEM and nature topics with staff educators and up to 11 other curious minds. Registrants meet three Tuesdays each month through live, virtually facilitated sessions on Zoom and self-directed offline exploration at home. All registrants are provided with an activity kit for each month they register. Kits for the entire month will be available the week prior to the first session during a designated pick-up time at Tifft Nature Preserve. More information will be provided upon registering.

Science at Home FAQ’s
During these days, your child will participate in two sessions – one in the morning, and another shorter session in the afternoon.
The morning session is an hour and a half long and this time will be used to create a sense of community among the group. The group will play games and be given an opportunity to connect with one another. Our team of educators will also give them a virtual Museum or Tifft experience, showing them amazing items from our collection, virtual tours, or exciting science and nature demonstrations.
During this time, they will also be introduced to their daily challenge or experiment. Using the materials in a provided supply kit, they will be given a task where they can independently create, discover and innovate.
When participants reconnect in the afternoon session, they will be given the opportunity to share and talk about what they learned or created. It is our hope that this format can empower your child(ren) to be independent and lifelong learners.
Space in each group will be limited to 12 registrations.
We will be using Zoom, as many people have become familiar with it over the past few months. At the beginning of each week, you will receive the link to access the Zoom rooms, including the password. For more information about Zoom or to download the app, please see Zoom.com.
While many of our activities will use everyday things from your home, we will also provide you with weekly kits with any specialized materials your child may need. Activity kits will be available for pick-up at Tifft Nature Preserve the week prior to the first week of the monthly session. Exact dates and times for pick-up will be communicated directly with program registrants. Delivery or shipping may be available at an additional charge. Please contact us if you need to make other arrangements.
In addition to these materials, your child will need some basic craft supplies (scissors, coloring materials) or other materials from your house (i.e. utensils, bowls, etc), but if you have trouble getting these materials, feel free to reach out to [email protected] for other arrangements.
Absolutely! However, the content will be geared for the listed age group and we will only be sending one supply kit per registration. We do encourage your children to work together on their daily challenges. Please note: There may be some activities that a kit per child will provide for a better experience.
